Alternative energy sources and their impact on the environment

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT Anjumol Paul St. Joseph College of Teacher Education for Women, Ernakulam   ABSTRACT The use of alternative energy sources to lessen the negative environmental effects of conventional fossil fuels has grown. Examples of these sources include solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, and tidal energy. In comparison to fossil fuels, these alternative energy sources have the potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and water use. This article focuses the environmental effects of different energy sources. Particularly solar and wind energy have become recognised as clean, renewable energy sources that have little to no negative effects on the environment when in use. However, there may be negative environmental effects from the manufacture and disposal of parts like solar panels and wind turbines. Despite being renewable, hydropower poses questions regarding methane emissions from reservoirs
